Repression and Revolt: Grand Jury Resistance in the Pacific Northwest
Friday December 21st, 2012 7:pm – 9pm at 1414 Lincoln Place Brooklyn, NY
After a recent history of contagious anarchist activity in Seattle and the broader Pacific Northwest the area is facing a wave of increased repression. This summer homes in Portland were raided by SWAT teams, and multiple anarchists in Portland and Olympia have been subpoenaed to testify before a federal grand jury investigating May Day vandalism in Seattle. The feds, as always, are also using this as an opportunity to map social networks.
Most of those called to testify have refused to do so and are in prison for this decision. On December 21st two speakers from the Committee Against Political Repression involved in support for the grand jury resisters will be in NYC to provide an inside look into what’s going on now, as well as a bit of background on the grand jury system and its use in repression. The talk will focus on repression as an inevitable consequence of revolt, and continued struggle as the necessary response to repression.
